Hayley, 7Plays a 1/4 Size Violin Duration of Learning: less than 2 years Started at BVMS Since: December 2020 Hayley is a new student at our studio, in a short 6 weeks she prepared and completed her ABRSM Grade 3 Violin examination from scratch with a Distinction. As an added challenge for the examination, Vivienne taught her as the self chosen 4th piece, Natalja Baklanova’s Concertino in D minor which was a long piece with a cadenza. She continues this challenge in this recital playing all three movements of Seitz Violin Concerto in G major. Other Favorite Things/Activities: Loves cheesecake, playing piano and tennis, enjoys reading Geronimo Stilton and Roald Dahl series of books. | |

Tyler, 11Plays a 4/4 Size BV7.7 Violin Total Duration of Learning: about 2 years Started at BVMS Since: April 2021 Tyler is a new student with Vivienne, he has a great interest in learning the violin and is determined to achieving better technique on the violin. ZhenglinPlays a Violin by a German Maker Total Duration of Learning: More than 10 years Started at BVMS Since: September 2019 Zhenglin is an LTCL Student of Vivienne’s he is currently working on expanding his repertoire as much as he can. He is a conscientious student who has a great love for the violin. His violin technique has improved greatly this term which enables him to venture to more pieces. He will also be playing for a coming Mozart Concerto Concert in July 2021. In this concert, he will be playing Beethoven’s Piano and Violin Sonata Op. 30 No. 3 in G Major, 3rd Movement. The challenge of the piece is the lively coordination and the conversation with the piano of the repeated theme heard on the onset of the song at a quick tempo. He also challenges himself with some new repertoire out of his usual, a Chinese Folk Song 新疆之寸 and a fairly modern Romantic piece by Ukrainian Composer Reinhold Moritzevich Glière entitled “Romance”. In this performance, he is accompanied by Pianist Vivian Reiko Chan. Other Favorite Things/Activities: Spending time with his young son. | |

Aloise, 5Plays a 1/8 Size Violin Duration of Learning: few months Started at BVMS Since: April 2021 Aloise is a new student with Vivienne, she is very quick to pick up tunes and also very focused during lessons to get her notes correct and technique understood at her young age. As a very new student in training, she is working on fundamental technique in Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Variations from Suzuki Book 1. We decided to record this as a memory for her as one of her earliest violin performance as a beginner. | |

Jimin, 16Plays a Violin by a German Maker, Bow BB5 Series Round Total Duration of Learning: 2 years, 2 months Started at BVMS Since: March 2019 Jimin started learning the violin 2 years ago, after a month of learning he started at BVMS where Vivienne started teaching him from Suzuki Book 1, Song of the Wind. This is his fourth solo concert he is playing with us. From the very first concert he showed significant progress playing Natajla Baklanova’s Concertino in D minor in 3 months of learning. At 1 year of learning, achieved a ABSRM Grade 5 Distinction. And at 18 months, he could play Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto 3rd Movement (see the previous concert). For this concert, he plays Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy. Jimin has a wide repertoire though he started the violin at a later age. He is self motivated and covers a concerto almost one in 2 weeks! It is not for the want of speed to rush through the repertoire, but due to a deadline to moving back to Korea to serve his National Service. This concert may be his last with us as he completes his studies here in Singapore. We wish him all the best! Ella, 9Plays a 3/4 Size BV5 Matte Violin Total Duration of Learning: 3 years, 4 months Started at BVMS Since: January 2018 Ella began her musical journey with Vivienne at 7 years old. She has a great passion for music and has a genuine keen interest in playing the violin. She practices regularly and is always well prepared for her class. She was very outstanding during the circuit breaker period where she played 6 pieces during our last concert. This time, she showcases some Grade 7 repertoire with the pieces Charles Dancla’s Aires Varies No. 4 and Oskar Rieding’s Concertino Op. 5. Other Favorite Things/Activities: Likes Musicals, Theatre, dance productions, movies and creating her own songs. | |

Jade, 16Playing on a 4/4 Size Belcanto Supremo Series Violin Duration of Learning: more than 10 years Started at BVMS Since: September 2019 After working for a year in improving her technical form with Vivienne, Jade completed her Grade 8 ABRSM Examinations in January. This concert is the first for her to try out other repertoire apart from usual examination pieces. Beriot Violin Concerto No. 9 is a very full piece as it showcases so many emerging themes and technical flair in a short 5 minute span, she thoroughly enjoyed preparing this piece for performance this time round. Despite her very busy schedule as a Junior College Student and a National Athlete. She perseveres to always put her best foot forward at violin class or any learning goal that is set for her. AdelePlays an Italian Violin Duration of Learning: a few months Started at BVMS Since: April 2021 Adele is a new student of Vivienne’s. She has only learnt the violin for a few months before joining Belcanto Violins Music Studio. She is very interested and passionate about the violin and hopes one day to play a full concerto. In this recital, even though she had only a handful of classes with Vivienne, she has taken up to perform the second movement of Seitz Violin Concerto No. 2 Op.13 in G Major. Ted, 3Plays a 1/8 BV3 Series Matte Violin Total Duration of Learning: 2 years Started at BVMS Since: January 2019 Ted started the violin with Vivienne at 40 months old, he has since mastered the notes of the first position and we are moving on to playing in the second position and some basic double stops. As a goal this time, we have him play for the performance all three movements of the Oskar Rieding Violin Concerto in B Minor. He is a very serious player even from the young age at 3 years old and also very conscientious with his preparation for the class. As a very young student, he managed to have his lessons through an online medium and continued to improve over the weeks. Very excited to see how Ted would blossom over the years with his passion on the violin. Other Favorite Things/Activities: Playing with Toy cars, at the playground, swimming. | |

Tiffany, 11Plays a 3/4 Size BV5SE Violin Duration of Learning: about 5 years Started at BVMS Since: April 2019 For this concert, Tiffany plays the whole four movements of Handel’s Sonata No. 3 in F Major, exploring some Baroque genre of classical music as a contrasts with the Seitz Student Violin concertos that she had performed in the previous concert. The work consist of a slow-fast-slow-fast arrangement through the movements. The fast movements are exciting and dance like. Tiffany started with Vivienne about a Grade 4 standard, since then Tiffany has shown considerable improvement in technique and position and note recognition as she had prepared almost the whole piece by her own as a project especially utilizing the 2nd and 4th positions. We will work towards a Grade 8 ABRSM now as she prepares for her PSLE this year. Other Favorite Things/Activities: Dance, Chinese Dance, reading fantasy novels, bakes with her mom in her free time and would like to be an architect when she grows up. | |

Jacie, 8Plays a 1/2 Size BV3 Series Matte Violin Total Duration of Learning: 4 years Started at BVMS Since: September 2019 Jacie loves playing the violin. She is always enthusiastic in trying to get something right in class and understand what’s right and wrong. This concert, we set a goal to play a slightly longer piece than what she is used to with Martini’s Gavotte from Suzuki Volume 3. As a Primary school student, she is in the strings CCA of her school. Hooi NgohPlays a 4/4 Belcanto Violins Supremo Series, BV Archetier Series Bow. Total Duration of Learning: More than 10 years Started at BVMS Since: October 2019 Hooi Ngoh spent the term learning focusing on violin technique and is putting into practice some of what she has learnt with the piece Aires Varies No. 1 by Charles Dancla. Despite her busy work schedule being a mother of two young children as well, she is prepared and well practiced each week for the classes. Our aim is to finish up the Grade 8 examinations in the coming months as she has been setting this as her goal for some time. Vivienne is determined to help to her to achieve this. Hannah, 5Playing on a 1/8 Size BV3 Series Matte Duration of Learning: 2 years Started at BVMS Since: January 2019 Hannah is a bubbly and spritely 5 year old who loves music. She picks up tunes very quickly and started the violin when she was three. In the last concert, Hannah played the last 5 songs of Suzuki Vol 1. As a goal this concert, she has been improving on her concentration to play a much longer piece. This Concerto that she showcases here is a concertino so it is a complete work in just one movement, however there is a short cadenza section where she plays a series of runs as a soloist. It is truly a joy to teach her as she is always very cheerful and says the cutest things during class due to her very vivid imagination. | |

Laura, 11Plays a 4/4 BV7.8 Violin Total Duration of Learning: About 6 years Started at BVMS Since: March 2019 This is Laura’s fourth concert. She started learning the violin about 2 years ago with Vivienne at a Grade 4 standard. She has improved on her confidence and technique in the violin and now learns new pieces at a much quicker rate. Laura has just completed her Grade 6 ABRSM Exam in January where she did well. Her interpretation of violin music is very tasteful and it is definitely a joy to hear her play. In this concert she plays the lively 3rd Movement from Seitz, Friedrich Student Concerto No.4, Op.15 and contrasted with the soulful Mediation from Thais. We look forward to a widened repertoire for Laura and also more achievements in the near future. She actively participates in orchestras that she has joined such as her school CCA and Kid’s Philharmonic Orchestra. Frances, 13Plays a 4/4 BV 7.5 Violin Total Duration of Learning: 2+ years Started at BVMS Since: January 2019 Frances started as a began her violin journey with Vivienne during her PSLE year. She truly loves the violin and this year is embarking on her Grade 6 ABRSM Examinations. This month she had also joined the 4th Le Petit Performer’s Festival. She is moving steadily through the syllabus though also adjusting to Secondary School life. LifeiPlaying on 4/4 Violin Duration of Learning: more than 10 years Started at BVMS Since: February 2021 Lifei is a fairly new student with Vivienne, she studied psychology and counseling. Worked in the field for some time before switching to work as a HR practitioner. She started her violin learning journey as a teenager and stopped for a while before recently picking it up again. She is working towards further improving her technical skill and interpretation on the violin with more repertoire and if given the opportunity to try for a diploma level examination. In this concert she participates with the popular Salut d’amour (Love’s Greeting) by the English Composer Sir Edward Elgar. Other Favorite Things/Activities: watercolor painting, watching Korean shows and YouTube videos, yoga, nature walks and loves travel. | |

Thaddeus, 8Plays a BV5 Series Matte 1/2 Size Violin Total Duration of Learning: About Started at BVMS Since: April 2021 Thaddeus has only had a couple of lessons with Vivienne, we are working on a long piece with the Oskar Rieding Violin Concerto and thought it would be a good memory to have to capture one of the earliest points of his learning with Vivienne. As a student, he is very focused and hardworking to understand and achieve any goal that is set for him. Audrey, 7Plays a 1/4 BV1 Series Gloss Violin Total Duration of Learning: 2 over years Started at BVMS Since: 2019 Audrey has moved through Suzuki Volume 1 pieces and is nearing the end of the book with the various Minuets. In this concert, she presents two Minuets by Bach. She has been every determined to get her performance right and put in a lot of effort for it. During circuit breaker, she carried on with online classes and was able to tune the violin each week moving the pegs! She is an International School Student and we hope she has the opportunity to present some of her songs to her classmates at school. Cheryl, 10Playing on a 3/4 Size BV5 Series Special Edition Violin Duration of Learning: 4 years Started at BVMS Since: 2017 Cheryl started violin when she was 7 with Vivienne, last February she did well in her Grade 5 ABRSM Examinations, and this year we are preparing for the Grade 7 ABRSM Performance Grade Exams. As one of the earliest students, she has participated in all of Belcanto Violins Music Studios concerts both internally and externally. She has moved steadily through both technique and repertoire and has developed a deep understanding of playing and learning the violin. We hope in the future, she can also teach the instrument to others! She will also be performing a Mozart Sonata in our coming Mozart concert sponsored by Yamaha/Bosendorfer. In this recital she plays Seitz, Friedrich Student Concerto No.4, Op.15 will be her fourth piece that she will be playing for the Grade 7 Examination, still very much a work in progress however that is what these videos are for as a reflection for our improvement! TaheraPlays a 4/4 Size Violin Total Duration of Learning: About 3 years Started at BVMS Since: 2018 Tahera started as an almost beginner with Vivienne. She is a Banker by profession and has taken up to play the violin as her hobby. As a student despite having a very busy day job, she is very focused and committed in grasping the correct concepts of playing the violin and often memorizes even her Etudes for class. In the last concert In August 2020, she played Oskar Rieding’s 1st and 2nd Movement and in this concert, she will be playing the 3rd Movement to complete the concerto. She has understood all of the first position and we have also moved on in studying the second position. Other Favorite Things/Activities: Loves her two pugs, travelling and reading. | |
