This is an exquisite copy of the 1741 “Vieuxtemps” Guarneri ‘del Gesù. The Vieuxtemps Guarneri is THE reference Guarneri. The provenance of the Vieuxtemps include legends like Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. It is presently considered the most expensive violin in the world.
Named after the immortal composer and violinist Henri Vieuxtemps, he brought the world’s attention to the ‘del Gesù violins and their exceptional quality. He popularised and set the standard for the (then modern) now classical tradition of the violin and its role in music. So seminal was his work with the instrument that bears his name that on his funeral, the instrument was also presented along with the hearse and procession. The instrument has sung for almost 300 years now and is considered one of the worlds oldest performing instrument.
This fine example is one of the best in the Belcanto Violins Supremo collection and is handmade from imported naturally aged European maple. Featuring a one piece back with contrasting markings, this instrument is physically beautiful. The instrument has a medium grain wood that the maker highlights on its ribs, neck and scroll. It has a smooth sonorous resonance and a very wide range of tone colours. It is suited for a wide degree of performing applications, this is an instrument that demands an audience.
This Violin is made by our master maker in Belcanto Violins Workshop and has had over 35 years of experience in Violin Making.
