Violin Recitals

This is a compulsory Bi- Annual Recital by all our students at Belcanto Violins Music Studios . Some have only been with us for about a month before recording their Recitals. These videos are not for any comparison purposes but as a learning project for us.

Hayley, 7

Plays a 1/4 Size Violin Duration of Learning: less than 2 years Started at BVMS Since: December 2020

Hayley is a new student at our studio, in a short 6 weeks she prepared and completed her ABRSM Grade 3 Violin examination from scratch with a Distinction. As an added challenge for the examination, Vivienne taught her as the self chosen 4th piece, Natalja Baklanova’s Concertino in D minor which was a long piece with a cadenza. She continues this challenge in this recital playing all three movements of Seitz Violin Concerto in G major.

Other Favorite Things/Activities: Loves cheesecake, playing piano and tennis, enjoys reading Geronimo Stilton and Roald Dahl series of books.

Plays a Violin by a German Maker Total Duration of Learning: More than 10 years Started at BVMS Since: September 2019

Zhenglin is an LTCL Student of Vivienne’s he is currently working on expanding his repertoire as much as he can. He is a conscientious student who has a great love for the violin. His violin technique has improved greatly this term which enables him to venture to more pieces. He will also be playing for a coming Mozart Concerto Concert in July 2021. In this concert, he will be playing Beethoven’s Piano and Violin Sonata Op. 30 No. 3 in G Major, 3rd Movement. The challenge of the piece is the lively coordination and the conversation with the piano of the repeated theme heard on the onset of the song at a quick tempo. He also challenges himself with some new repertoire out of his usual, a Chinese Folk Song 新疆之寸 and a fairly modern Romantic piece by Ukrainian Composer Reinhold Moritzevich Glière entitled “Romance”. In this performance, he is accompanied by Pianist Vivian Reiko Chan.

Other Favorite Things/Activities: Spending time with his young son.

Jimin, 16

Plays a Violin by a German Maker, Bow BB5 Series Round Total Duration of Learning: 2 years, 2 months Started at BVMS Since: March 2019

Jimin started learning the violin 2 years ago, after a month of learning he started at BVMS where Vivienne started teaching him from Suzuki Book 1, Song of the Wind. This is his fourth solo concert he is playing with us. From the very first concert he showed significant progress playing Natajla Baklanova’s Concertino in D minor in 3 months of learning. At 1 year of learning, achieved a ABSRM Grade 5 Distinction. And at 18 months, he could play Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto 3rd Movement (see the previous concert). For this concert, he plays Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy. Jimin has a wide repertoire though he started the violin at a later age. He is self motivated and covers a concerto almost one in 2 weeks! It is not for the want of speed to rush through the repertoire, but due to a deadline to moving back to Korea to serve his National Service. This concert may be his last with us as he completes his studies here in Singapore. We wish him all the best!

Other Favorite Things/Activities: Plays the Saxophone, listening to classical music, would like to play in an orchestra some day.
